About Matt Dubnik

Your State Representative Since 2017

Born right here in Gainesville, I am a conservative Republican, small business owner, father, husband and someone who is active in my community. I have had a desire to serve my community since I was a young boy. That’s why my responsibility as a public servant for Gainesville and Hall County is not one I take lightly.

I was appointed by former House Speaker David Ralston to a high-profile, key leadership role, as Chairman of the K-12 Education Committee during the 2021 legislative session, in addition to previous leadership appointments including Secretary of Appropriations in 2020. Today, I serve as the Chairman of the K-12 Education Committee on Appropriations. This encompasses oversight of the largest single line item on the state budget: funding the education of Georgia’s Pre-K students and those in grades K through 12.

My wife, Katie, and I call Gainesville home. We are raising our family here, just as our parents raised us in this community. We have strong roots here as we believe it is our job to give back to our community more than it gives to us.

While in the House of Representatives, I have been recognized by my peers, by “watchdog groups”, and by various industry associations as a leader on sound conservative policy. My job is to represent you, and thus, I have put you and your family at the forefront of my mind in each decision I make, bringing a common-sense approach to deliver real results that are felt by all.

It has been my honor and privilege to serve the 29th district and I look forward to continuing my service to you under the Gold Dome. While I am in my eighth year of service as your Representative, I realize how much I have to offer the people of Hall County. I have been taught much during my time in office, and I acknowledge the calling to continue to be an advocate for all Georgians on many causes.

I pledge to continue to work tirelessly as your State Representative, so that all Georgians have the chance to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Since 2014, I have served as the Chief Engagement Officer of Forum Communications, a full-service strategic marketing agency focused on helping businesses, nonprofits and startups find their voice in a crowded marketplace.

I am a 1999 graduate of Lakeview Academy and received a Bachelor of Science in management and information technology from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2003. I am a former member of the national Board of Directors for Ducks Unlimited; am a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club; serve on the board of Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia; am a Trustee for Georgia Tech Alumni Association; serve on Georgia Tech Stamps President’s Scholarship selection committee; serve as chair of the Lakeview Athletic Club; and am a member of Lakeview Academy’s development committee. My family and I are members of First Baptist Church Gainesville, where I recently completed service as a deacon. I am a 2012 Leadership Hall graduate, a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2018, was recognized by Georgia Trend magazine with their 40 Under 40 award in 2017, honored as the Gainesville Jaycees 2021 Young Man of the Year, and was recognized in February 2024 with my wife as the Gus Whalen Rising Star Award winners by Junior Achievement.
